EXHIBITION: Amanda Palmer and Barry Wilson at Bannatyne Hotel and Spa, Hastings
Exclusive exhibition of artworks by Amanda Palmer and Barry Wilson at Bannatyne Hotel & Spa, Hastings until 7 July and the at Newart gallery, Eastbourne until 27 July.
Amanda Palmer studied Fine Art at De Montfort University in Leicester in 2001. Her interest in drawing intensified whilst teaching life drawing at the London College of Fashion and completing a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education in 2006. She went on to complete The Drawing Year at The Prince's Drawing School (now the Royal Drawing School) in 2008.
Her drawings are exquisitely detailed narratives of fantastical tales. Titles include “The Cat and the Fiddle” and “Alice”.
Barry Wilson trained at the Camberwell School of Art and was taught by influential artists such as Bruce Mclean, Cornelia Parker, Jock Mcfadden and Ian Mckeever. Before becoming a full time artist Barry worked in film and television.
Describing his artwork, Barry says: “My style emulates a faint image in an antique mirror or a creased and faded much loved photo. I believe the delicate, fragile beauty of the gold leaf finish belies the somewhat brutal techniques I employ. These include using industrial spray guns, scouring pads and water jets, scrubbing back the layers of paint to reveal the gold leaf base which seems to give the structure/framework of the painting. I believe the result is a vibrant and edgy captured moment; contemporary and beautiful.”.
Barry’s highly distinctive paintings have been exhibited in major museums and galleries worldwide with international acclaim, winning the celebrated Saatchi award in 2012.

EXHIBITION: ‘Jimmie Hendrix and other stories’
Exhibition of artwork by Paul Jennings.
Paul’s career has been as a Lighting Technician for big groups such as Paul McCartney, Take That, ZZ Top etc, as well as a Blues and Jazz musician around Sussex. However, due to the lack of work as a consequence of the pandemic, he decided to take up drawing and painting, that he enjoyed as a schoolboy.
Without any formal training he has been experimenting in all aspect of creating a piece of artwork. Starting with pencil and charcoal, making small sketches, this has given him a sense of what he wants to do. He has progressed to painting in oils and acrylic, using brushes and he has enjoyed the use of a palette knife. His use materials from paper, canvas, board, and wood, has given him a new outlook in what he wants to achieve.
This exhibition will celebrate Pauls resilience and fortitude as a human being and talent as an artist.

For the past 10 years she has been most interested in drawing abstract imagery from the landscape, rugged mountain erosion, structure of the land and the the dynamics of plant growth. She loves the strong light and shadow of Southern Europe, and remote New Zealand, where she was brought up, as well as the gentler greyness of the light in London and Sussex.
